Father's Day Lunch in Parramatta: A Greek Table for Dad
Father's Day falls on Sunday 6 September. A straightforward case for lamb cutlets, a shared grill, and a long table in Parramatta.
Father's Day falls on Sunday 6 September this year, and if you are looking for somewhere in Parramatta to take him, here is a straightforward case for a Greek table.
What Dad actually wants
Not a degustation. Not something described as deconstructed. In our experience, what most fathers want on a Sunday is a decent piece of grilled meat, more food than is strictly sensible, and enough time at the table to actually talk to everyone.
That is essentially the entire Greek approach to lunch.
What to order him
If he likes lamb, order the paidakia. Lamb cutlets off the grill, and the dish we would put in front of anyone who wants to understand what we do. It is the order we see fathers quietly enjoying most.
If the table is larger, the Mix Grill or the Olympus Plate are both built to be shared, which is usually the better move on a family occasion. Everyone picks at everything and no one is stuck watching someone else's meal look better than theirs.
If he is a creature of habit, a Souvlaki Plate or a Gyros Plate in pork, chicken or lamb does the job, with pita, tzatziki, salad and chips.
Start with dips and pita for the table, and add spanakopita and haloumi. Finish with something sweet if anyone still has room, which they will not.
Bringing the whole family
Father's Day tables are usually mixed. Grandparents, kids, someone's new partner, someone who does not eat meat. A Greek table handles that better than most because the food is shared rather than plated per person.
There is a kids' skewer for the younger ones. There is a Vegetarian Plate, a mushroom moussaka and a vegetarian pita for anyone who does not eat meat, along with all five dips and the salads. Our chicken and lamb are halal-sourced through our butcher, though we do serve pork in the same kitchen, so if that matters to your table just mention it when you book and we will walk you through it.
Book early, Sunday fills up
Father's Day is one of the busiest Sundays of the year in Parramatta, and we are a small family restaurant, not a function centre. The tables that suit a big family group are the first to go.
We are at 316 Church St, Parramatta, open Sunday from 12pm to 11pm. Book a table online, or call us on (02) 9891 4174 if you are bringing a larger group and want us to put you somewhere you can all hear each other.
